Delhi to Jibhi: how to reach in 2026

The overnight bus to Aut, the Aut–Banjar last mile, taxi vs bus cost ranges, and how to land at our cottages in Chhet without guessing at dawn.

Short answer: there is usually no direct Delhi–Jibhi bus. Book an overnight Delhi → Manali / Kullu coach, get down at Aut, then finish by local bus or taxi through Banjar to Jibhi or our village Chhet. Distance is roughly 480–530 km and a full overnight-plus-morning. This guide goes deeper than our how-to-reach page and the weekend itinerary — especially on buses, last-mile choices and cost ranges.

The overnight bus to Aut

The hills open up after Aut — this is the stretch you want daylight for.

Most guests leave Delhi between about 5–9:30 PM from ISBT Kashmere Gate or Majnu Ka Tilla on HRTC or private AC / Volvo coaches headed to Manali or Kullu. Journey time to Aut is commonly 10–13 hours, with dawn arrivals around 5:30–7:30 AM.

  • Drop point: book or request Aut / Aut Tunnel / Aut Market. Do not ride through to Kullu or Manali.
  • Remind the conductor when you board and again near Mandi so the driver stops safely.
  • HRTC Himsuta / Volvo: aggregator listings often start near ₹725 and climb toward about ₹1,400–₹1,600 for luxury classes (AbhiBus / redBus HRTC Delhi–Aut pages, checked Oct 2026).
  • Private Volvos: travel guides commonly quote roughly ₹1,000–₹1,800 off-peak; festival and long-weekend inventory can spike higher — always recheck your date.
  • Our pick: a private AC Volvo overnight to Aut. Confirm your pickup point with the operator the day before — travellers have been caught out when a bus changed its boarding point or skipped a stop.

We do not lock “the” fare into stone because operators change prices by date and seat. Treat the numbers above as published ranges from booking sites and recent guides, then verify before you pay.

Aut → Banjar → Jibhi: the last mile

After Aut, the last hour lands you on quiet village paths like this in Chhet.

Aut is the highway junction. From here the valley road climbs toward Banjar and Jibhi. Typical published distances: Aut → Banjar ~20–25 km, Banjar → Jibhi ~8 km, Aut → Jibhi ~28–35 km depending on exact drop.

  • Local HRTC bus (cheapest): Aut → Banjar often cited around ₹35–₹50 (about 45–60 minutes); Banjar → Jibhi around ₹20 (about 15–25 minutes). Local buses are cash-only and thin after late afternoon.
  • Shared taxi seats: Aut → Banjar seats are often quoted around ₹80–₹120 when a car fills.
  • Private taxi Aut → Jibhi / Chhet: published rates run roughly ₹1,500–₹2,500 for a hatchback or sedan and about ₹3,000–₹3,500 for an Innova or Bolero (Jibhi taxi rate lists and guides, checked Oct 2026). Fares vary by dates and how far in advance you book, so confirm the price before you get in.

Budget public-transit stack (overnight Volvo + two local buses) is often estimated around ₹1,200–₹1,700 per person one way in guidebook math. A private Aut taxi for a couple or group with bags is usually worth the comfort.

Self-drive and parking

Drive in by daylight if you can — the last stretch is narrow mountain road.

Common route: Delhi → Chandigarh / Ambala → Kiratpur → Mandi → Pandoh → Aut. At Aut, turn toward Larji / Banjar / Jibhi — do not enter the Aut Tunnel if your destination is Tirthan Valley. Total driving time is often quoted 11–14 hours depending on stops and traffic.

  • Drive right up to your cottage door: cars reach our cottages easily, and parking is free.
  • Message us before you leave for the location pin, last-stretch notes and current road conditions.
  • Long weekends jam the Aut–Banjar road — midweek arrivals feel calmer.

By air via Bhuntar

The nearest airport is Bhuntar (Kullu). Taxis run from the airport toward Banjar / Jibhi (about 56–65 km, roughly 1.5–2 hours). Published fares are roughly ₹2,500–₹4,500 depending on the car. Fares vary by dates and how far in advance you book. Schedules and weather cancellations are common in the hills — always keep a bus or road backup.

Winter and monsoon caveats

Short winter days — plan to finish the Aut–Chhet stretch in daylight when you can.
  • Monsoon (roughly July–August): landslides and slow traffic are possible on NH approaches and the valley road.
  • Winter: snow is possible but never guaranteed. Roads can be slow after snow, so ask us for the week you are travelling. Once you reach Chhet, cars drive right up to the cottage door, and each cottage has a room heater, 24x7 hot water and power backup.
  • Keep a fleece handy for the Aut dawn stop; ATMs in Aut and Banjar are often offline — carry small cash for local buses and chai.
  • Pets are welcome at our cottages; if you are travelling with a dog, plan the last-mile taxi (not a packed local bus) and tell us size and breed when you book.

Taxi vs bus: quick compare

  • All public (Volvo + locals): cheapest per seat; more transfers; fragile after ~5 PM local buses.
  • Volvo + private Aut taxi: best for couples, luggage, pets, kids, or dawn arrivals.
  • Full self-drive: flexible stops; needs a confident mountain driver on the Banjar stretch.
  • Flight + taxi: fastest when the flight runs; expensive and weather-sensitive.
