Jibhi in November 2026: cold nights, clear days, quiet weekdays

How cold it gets, whether Jalori Pass is still open, and how to spend Diwali in the hills.

Jibhi in November is late autumn turning into winter. Days are usually clear and dry, nights get properly cold, and the valley goes quiet after Diwali. It suits couples, slow travellers and people with dogs who want space more than a packed café scene. Here is what to expect in November 2026, and how to plan around Jalori Pass and Diwali on Sunday 8 November.

Jibhi weather in November

Guides covering the valley put November roughly between 2°C and 15°C. Expect mild, sunny afternoons and frosty mornings close to freezing by late month. The Great Himalayan National Park lists autumn (September to November) as its best season, with clear skies and minimal rainfall. Snow in Jibhi village is rare in November; it usually arrives from December.

  • Pack: down jacket, thermals, woollen cap and gloves, warm socks, a good pair of walking shoes
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses: the November sun is strong at this altitude
  • Mornings and evenings are the coldest; plan walks for 10 am to 3 pm

Is Jalori Pass open in November 2026?

Usually yes in early November, but this is the borderline month. Jalori Pass (about 3,120 m) on NH-305 tends to close after the first heavy snowfall, which some years comes in mid or late November and some years not until January. In the 2025–26 winter, for example, Amar Ujala reported the pass shut by snow on 23 January and reopening for 4x4 vehicles 19 days later. There is no fixed closing date, so:

  • Plan Serolsar Lake or Raghupur Fort for the first half of November if they matter to you
  • Check the IMD Shimla forecast and District Kullu notices 24–48 hours before, and ask us or a local taxi driver the evening before
  • Keep a valley-only backup day (Chehni Kothi, Jibhi waterfall, riverside walks)

Diwali in the hills

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, so the natural long-weekend window is Friday 6 to Tuesday 10 November. It is a good way to swap city noise and smoke for diyas, a quiet hillside and a home-cooked festive meal. Those dates fill first, so message early. We wrote a separate guide: Diwali 2026 long weekend in Tirthan Valley.

November 2026 dates at a glance

  • Fri 6 – Tue 10 Nov: Diwali long weekend window (Diwali is Sunday 8 November; Govardhan Puja Monday 9 November)
  • Mon 16 – Thu 19 Nov: the quietest stretch of the month, after the Diwali return traffic (11–12 Nov) and the Punjab long weekend (13–15 Nov)
  • Fri 20 – Mon 23 Nov: Guru Nanak Jayanti falls on Tuesday 24 November 2026, so taking Monday 23 off makes a four-day weekend
  • Late November: coldest nights and the highest chance of Jalori Pass closing after snow

Office holidays differ by state and employer, so check your own calendar. Also read our Kullu Dussehra guide if you are coming earlier, in October, and our Siddu guide for the dish to try on a cold evening.

What is still open in November

  • Great Himalayan National Park (UNESCO World Heritage) via Gushaini: the park lists core-zone trekking as open September to November; check conditions and permits before you go
  • Serolsar Lake and Raghupur Fort from Jalori Pass, weather and road permitting, best early in the month
  • Chehni Kothi and village walks around Jibhi and Chhet
  • Jibhi waterfall and the Tirthan riverside
  • Fewer cafés: some close for winter after Diwali, which is one more reason to stay somewhere with its own kitchen

Why November weekdays

After Diwali, visitor numbers drop and the roads are quiet. If you can travel Monday to Thursday, you get the valley mostly to yourself: clear views, empty trails, long evenings by a bonfire (on request, charged extra). It is also the easiest time to get the exact cottage you want.

Getting there from Delhi

Jibhi is about 490–530 km from Delhi (11–13 hours by road). Overnight Delhi–Manali buses drop you at Aut early in the morning; from Aut take a local bus or taxi via Banjar to Jibhi. Driving? At Aut, take NH-305 towards Banjar and Jibhi; we send the location pin and the route for the last stretch on WhatsApp. In November, try to finish the last mountain stretch before dark. See How to reach us.

Where to stay in November

Peaks N Valley Stays is in Chhet, a short drive from Jibhi: a Romantic Glass House for two with a private hot tub, and two Mudhouses for up to three guests each, with bonfire evenings on request (charged extra). Each cottage has a room heater, hot water is available 24x7, and there is power backup. Cars drive right up to your cottage door, and parking is free. All three are pet-friendly, and our in-house local chefs cook Himachali food with farm-sourced produce, including fresh Siddu on request.
