Manali to Jibhi: route, bus and cab

From the busiest town in Himachal to one of its quietest valleys in 4–5 hours.

Plenty of our guests arrive from Manali. Here is the route, the bus switch at Aut, and how to fit both into one trip.

Short answer: Manali to Jibhi is about 145 km, usually 4–5 hours by road: south through Kullu and Bhuntar, through the Aut tunnel to Aut, then via Banjar to Jibhi. By bus, take any Manali–Mandi, Manali–Chandigarh or Manali–Delhi bus to Aut and switch to a local bus or taxi; we help our guests arrange a taxi from Aut (fares vary). Many travellers do Manali first and finish their trip in the quiet of Jibhi.

The route: Manali – Kullu – Bhuntar – Aut – Banjar – Jibhi

  • Manali → Kullu → Bhuntar: along the Beas on the main highway; traffic around Manali and Kullu can be slow on weekends.
  • Bhuntar → Aut: through the Aut tunnel, which brings you out at Aut.
  • Aut → Banjar → Jibhi: roughly 28–35 km of narrower hill road. See Aut to Jibhi for road conditions.

This route does not cross any high pass, so it is the normal way between Manali and Jibhi all year. Jalori Pass is in the other direction, above Jibhi, and is only needed if you go on towards Shimla.

Manali to Jibhi by bus (HRTC and private)

  • Take an HRTC or private bus from Manali heading towards Mandi, Chandigarh or Delhi, and ask for Aut.
  • At Aut, change to a local bus for Banjar and Jibhi, or take a taxi.
  • Some days there may be buses from Kullu towards Banjar, which saves a change; timings change, so ask at the bus stand.
  • For our guests: WhatsApp your bus and we help arrange a taxi from Aut (fares vary).

Manali to Jibhi by cab or taxi

A one-way cab is the easiest option, around 4–5 hours with a tea stop. Fares depend on the car and season, and Manali taxi unions set their own rates, so ask for a quote before you commit. Avoid leaving Manali late afternoon in winter; the last hill stretch after Aut is best done in daylight.

Manali or Jibhi: why do both?

Manali gives you snow points, cafés and a busy town; Jibhi gives you forest walks, old wooden villages and quiet nights. Doing Manali first and ending in Jibhi is a common, good plan: you finish your holiday rested. For the honest comparison, see Jibhi vs Manali vs Kasol.

A Manali + Jibhi plan

  • Days 1–2: Manali.
  • Day 3: morning drive to Jibhi (4–5 hours), afternoon Jibhi waterfall.
  • Day 4: Jalori Pass and Serolsar Lake if open, otherwise Chehni Kothi.
  • Day 5: slow morning, then the overnight bus from Aut back to Delhi.

Manali to Jibhi in winter

In winter the highway between Manali and Aut is usually open, but snow around Manali and ice on the last stretch to Jibhi can slow you down. Snow in Jibhi village itself is possible, mostly in January and February, never guaranteed. Read Jibhi in winter before you plan.

Coming back: Jibhi to Manali

The same route in reverse, about 4–5 hours. If you plan to visit Mall Road the same evening, leave Jibhi by late morning.

Distances and times are approximate, from public route guides and our own drives; mountain roads vary with weather, traffic and roadworks. Check the District Kullu notices before travel in winter or monsoon.
