Where to stay near Jalori Pass
A warm base in Chhet, a Jalori day trip, and a fallback when the pass closes.

Short answer: to stay near Jalori Pass, base yourself in the Jibhi area rather than on the pass itself. Jalori (about 3,120 m) is roughly 12–14 km above Jibhi via Shoja, around 45 minutes by road, and our cottages in Chhet are a few minutes past Jibhi. You get the pass as a day trip and come back to a warm cottage with power backup at night.
Why not sleep on the pass?
The top of Jalori is cold, exposed and has very few rooms. Nights are much colder than in the valley, and after heavy snow the road can shut, which can leave you stuck on the wrong side. Staying lower, around Jibhi and Chhet, gives you more choice, easier mornings and a fallback plan if the pass closes.
Why Chhet works well
- Close enough: start after breakfast and reach Jalori by mid-morning.
- Drive to the door: park for free right at your cottage when you get back.
- Warm evenings: a room heater in every cottage, 24x7 hot water and power backup.
- Quiet: a small hillside in a village, away from the main Jibhi market traffic.
- Pets welcome: bring your dog on the Jalori day trip and back to the cottage.

A simple Jalori day from Chhet
- Morning: breakfast, then drive up to Jalori Pass. Check the road with us or a local driver the evening before.
- Midday: walk to Serolsar Lake, roughly 5 km each way on a mostly gentle forest trail, weather permitting.
- Afternoon: back down before the light goes; stop at Shoja for the views.
- Evening: hot water, a heater on and dinner from our in-house chefs' menu.
More detail on the walk and on when the road closes is in Jalori Pass and Serolsar Lake in October–November. If you are driving in over the pass from Shimla, read Shimla to Jibhi via Jalori Pass.
Which cottage to book
Couples usually pick the Glass House in Jibhi, with a private hot tub that feels very good after a cold day on the pass. Groups and families take the Mudhouse cottages in Chhet, up to 3 guests each or 6 with both. No car? We can help arrange a taxi from Aut, and for the Jalori day; fares vary.
When the pass is closed
Jalori usually closes for a while after the first heavy snow, often sometime between late November and January. When it is shut, you reach Jibhi year-round from Aut via Banjar, and you can still enjoy the valley: Chehni Kothi, the Jibhi waterfall and village walks. See 5 things to do in Jibhi.
