Best cottage in Jibhi: how to choose the best stay
Road access, heating, power, views and pets: what to check before you book a cottage in Jibhi.
Plan around your stay with 5 things to do in Jibhi, or read Jibhi in December for a winter break.
Short answer: the best cottage in Jibhi for you depends on six things more than on the photos: can you drive to the door, how it is heated, what happens in a power cut, what you see from the bed, whether your dog can come, and whether it fits your group. Here is how to check each one.
1. Road access and parking
Jibhi sits on a steep valley side, and plenty of stays are a walk or a climb from where you park. That is fine in summer, less fun with bags, a dog and a cold evening. Ask: "Can we drive right up to the cottage, and is parking free?" At our cottages in Chhet, a few minutes past Jibhi, you can drive right up and park for free. If you come from Shimla, the Ani to Jalori road is fine in a hatchback (see our Shimla to Jibhi road trip guide).
Coming by bus? Most buses drop you at Aut. We can help arrange a taxi from Aut to Chhet; fares vary, so we confirm them when you book. Full routes are on how to reach.
2. Heating and hot water
From October the evenings in Jibhi turn cold. Ask whether there is a heater in the room and whether hot water runs all day or only at fixed hours. Every one of our cottages has a room heater and 24x7 hot water.
3. Power backup
Hill power can drop in bad weather. A heater and geyser are only useful if the power stays on, so ask whether the stay has backup. We have power backup in place.
4. Views and privacy
"Valley view" can mean anything. Ask for a photo taken from the bed or the balcony, not a drone shot. Our Glass House in Jibhi has glass walls facing the mountains and a private hot tub, for up to 2 guests. The Mudhouse cottages in Chhet are warm mud-and-wood cottages with a covered patio and garden.
5. Pets welcome?
Many cottages say "pet friendly" but mean outdoors only. Ask what the rules are before you set out. Pets are welcome at all our cottages; read pet-friendly cottages in Tirthan Valley.
6. Group size and food
Couples usually want one private cottage; families and friends want rooms side by side. The Glass House sleeps up to 2, and each Mudhouse sleeps up to 3, so the two Mudhouses together take up to 6. In-house local chefs cook from a menu, and Wi-Fi with a work desk is there if you need to log in.
Not sure which to pick? Couples who want the hot tub should read Jibhi cottage with jacuzzi; anyone coming in October or November should read what to pack for Jibhi.
