Jibhi in February: late snow, empty trails, warm nights
Weather, snow chances, Jalori status and Valentine's week, from our cottages in Chhet.
February is winter's quiet second act in Jibhi: still cold, often snowy up high, and far emptier than Christmas week.
Short answer: yes, you can visit Jibhi in February. It is one of the two snowiest months, with average highs around 12°C and lows near 0°C, and about 105 mm of rain and snow over roughly 8 days. Snow in the village is possible, never guaranteed. Jalori Pass is often closed by snow, so you arrive via Aut and Banjar. Valentine's week makes February a favourite for couples who want a cosy, quiet break.
Jibhi weather in February
- Days: around 12°C on average; sunny afternoons feel pleasant.
- Nights: around 0°C, sometimes colder after snow.
- Precipitation: about 105 mm over roughly 8 days, as rain or snow.
- Daylight: getting longer than January, but the sun still drops behind the ridges early.
Averages: daily ERA5 reanalysis for Jibhi village, 2016–2025, via Open-Meteo, rounded (same data as our best time to visit Jibhi table). Jalori Pass, about 3,120 m, is much colder.
Snowfall in Jibhi in February
January and February are when the village is most likely to see snow. Some years bring a heavy spell, some years only the higher ridges turn white. If snow is the whole point, keep your dates flexible, watch the IMD Shimla forecast in the week before, and read Jibhi snowfall for how we track it. Even without snow in the village, the peaks around are usually white in February.
Is Jalori Pass open in February?
Usually not, or only on and off. After heavy snow the pass can shut for weeks: in the 2025–26 winter, Amar Ujala reported it shut by snow on 23 January and reopened for 4x4 vehicles only 19 days later. Plan February trips on the Aut–Banjar–Jibhi route, which does not cross Jalori. Details: is Jalori Pass open?
What to do in Jibhi in February
- Jibhi waterfall: at midday, with care on icy steps.
- Chehni Kothi and Shringa Rishi: usually reachable from Banjar; skip the footpath if it is icy.
- Snow walks around the village after a fresh fall, in proper shoes.
- Long, warm evenings: the reason most people come in February. A bonfire can be arranged on request at an extra charge.
Not possible in February: trout fishing (closed 1 November to end of February; see Tirthan trout fishing) and, in most years, the Serolsar Lake trek.
Valentine's week in Jibhi
February is the month couples ask about most. The glass house in Jibhi is built for it: one couple, a glass roof over the bed, the valley through the glass and a private hot tub, with a room heater, 24x7 hot water and power backup. Room decoration, a cake and a candlelight dinner are available on request with 1 day's advance notice. Valentine's week (7–14 February) books up first, so message early. Getting there in February
- By bus: an overnight private Volvo from Delhi to Aut (recommended), then a taxi; we can help arrange one from Aut (fares vary).
- By car: via Mandi, Aut and Banjar. After snow, the last stretch can be icy; ask us the day before and drive in daylight.
- At the cottage: you drive right up to the door and park free.
What to pack for Jibhi in February
- Down jacket, thermals, woollen cap and gloves.
- Waterproof shoes with grip.
- Sunglasses and sunscreen; snow glare is strong.
- A power bank; we have power backup, but phones drain fast in the cold.

February week by week
- 1–10 February: deep winter; highest snow chance of the month, coldest nights. Best for snow-watchers with flexible dates.
- Valentine's week (7–14): the busiest few days of the month for couple stays; book early.
- 15–28 February: days lengthen and afternoons warm up; snow still possible but melts faster in the village.
Whatever the week, keep one buffer day in case snow or ice slows the roads, and plan outdoor time between 10 AM and 3 PM when the sun is on the valley.
Is February a good time for Jibhi?
It is a good time if you want a quiet, wintry break: cold mornings, frosty fields, snow on the peaks and very few other travellers outside Valentine's week. It is not ideal for treks: Serolsar and Raghupur are usually out of reach while Jalori is shut, and trout fishing is closed. Think of February as a stay-focused month: long breakfasts, short walks and evenings in.
