Jibhi snowfall: when it snows and how to plan

Snowfall time, December chances and how to check the forecast before you go.

Planning around snow in Jibhi? Here is what the months usually look like, what happened last winter, and how to stay warm and safe on the road.

Short answer: Jibhi snowfall usually starts as light snow in the second half of December, mostly on the higher ridges around Jibhi, Shoja and Jalori. The heavier, more dependable snow months are January and February. Nobody can promise snow on your dates, so plan a cosy winter break and treat snow as a bonus.

Jibhi snowfall time: month by month

  • November: cold, clear and dry. Snow is unusual, though the high peaks can get a dusting.
  • December: the first light snow becomes more likely after mid-month, more often on the higher ridges than in the village. See Jibhi in December.
  • January: the main snow month. Heavy spells can close Jalori Pass for weeks.
  • February: late snow is still common; days start to warm by the end of the month.

Jibhi snowfall 2026: what last winter tells us

Winters vary a lot. In the 2025–26 season the first snowfall that shut Jalori Pass came only on 23 January 2026, according to Amar Ujala. After that, the pass reopened for 4x4 vehicles after 19 days and to regular traffic on 18 February, The Tribune reported. So if snow is the whole point of your trip, aim for mid-January to February and keep your dates flexible.

Snowfall forecast: how to check before you go

  • Check the IMD Shimla forecast and District Kullu notices 24–48 hours before you travel.
  • Ask us on WhatsApp the evening before; we share current road status and the location pin.
  • Come via Aut and Banjar on NH-305, the normal year-round way to Jibhi. Never plan your route over Jalori in winter.
  • Finish the mountain stretch before dark: frost and black ice are common on shaded bends in the morning and after sunset.

Getting around Jibhi in snow without a car

You do not need your own car to enjoy a snowy Jibhi. Local taxis work the Banjar, Jibhi and Shoja roads, and drivers know which stretches are passable on the day. Road conditions vary after snowfall: some shaded bends stay icy for days, and the road to Jalori Pass usually closes after heavy snow.

  • Book taxis in daylight: plan sightseeing for late morning and afternoon, once the sun has softened the ice, and be back before dark.
  • Ask about chains and 4x4: after fresh snow, local drivers may use snow chains or a 4x4, or may wait until roads are cleared. Follow their call.
  • Keep plans flexible: snow is never guaranteed on your dates, and when it does fall, roads can take a day or two to clear. Build in a spare day.
  • Walk the village: some of the best snow moments are a short walk from your door, so you may not need a vehicle at all on a snow day.
