Long weekends 2027: when to plan a Jibhi trip
Every 2027 long weekend from the official holiday list, the leave days that stretch them, and what the valley is like on each.
Short answer: the best 2027 breaks for Jibhi are Holi + Good Friday (20–28 March, three leave days), Ram Navami + Mahavir Jayanti (15–19 April, one leave day), Id-ul-Zuha + Buddha Purnima (15–23 May, three leave days) and the Diwali weekend (29–31 October). Republic Day (23–26 January, one leave day) is the pick for a chance of snow, which is never guaranteed. Dates are from the DoPT list for central government offices in Delhi; check your own office list.
If you live in Delhi NCR, Chandigarh or Punjab, the easiest way to get a proper Jibhi trip is to hang it on a long weekend. The drive or overnight bus is long, so a plain Saturday–Sunday feels rushed; three to five days feels right. Below are the 2027 long weekends worked out from the official central government holiday list, what the valley is like on each, and which cottage suits who.
Where these dates come from
The dates are from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) office memorandum on holidays in Central Government offices during 2027 (F. No. 12/2/2023-JCA, July 2026). That list is for central government offices in Delhi and New Delhi. Gazetted holidays are closed days; restricted holidays are optional days employees can pick from (two a year in that list). Your state government, school or private company may follow a different list, so check yours before you book.
- Id dates can shift by a day depending on the moon; the memo itself says so. The Id-ul-Zuha date below is marked *.
- Weekdays checked against the 2027 calendar.
- Leave days assume a Monday–Friday week with Saturday and Sunday off.

The two best “leave hacks” in 2027
- Holi + Good Friday, 20–28 March: nine days off for three leave days. March in the valley is the thaw, with some showers and a quiet feel — see Jibhi in March. The Holi weekend can bring a small rush from Delhi, so book early.
- Id-ul-Zuha + Buddha Purnima, 15–23 May: nine days off for three leave days, right when the plains get hot. May is warm and green in Jibhi, a good time for village walks, the Jibhi waterfall and day trips.
- Ram Navami + Mahavir Jayanti, 15–19 April: five days for one leave day — mild days, cool nights.

Holidays that fall on a weekend in 2027
Several big holidays land on a Saturday or Sunday in 2027, so they do not add an extra day off: Independence Day and Id-e-Milad (both Sun 15 Aug), Gandhi Jayanti (Sat 2 Oct), Dussehra (Sat 9 Oct), Guru Nanak Jayanti (Sun 14 Nov) and Christmas (Sat 25 Dec). The DoPT memo says no substitute holiday is given when a holiday falls on a weekly off. If your office allows the restricted holiday the day before (Mahanavmi on Fri 8 Oct, Christmas Eve on Fri 24 Dec), you still get a three-day weekend.
Which weekend for which trip
- Snow hopefuls: the January and February weekends. Snow is possible in Dec–Feb but never guaranteed; read Jibhi snowfall before you plan around it. In deep winter Jalori Pass is often shut, so plan the drive via Aut and Banjar — see Delhi to Jibhi by car.
- Green, mild and easy: April and May. This is the next-best window after October–November.
- Monsoon (August): we would think twice. July and August bring real road risk; if you do come, keep a spare day and check road updates before you leave.
- Clear autumn: the October weekends (Dussehra, Diwali) — dry, clear days and our own favourite time in the valley.
Getting there in three or four days
From Delhi, the usual options are driving or an overnight Volvo to Aut. A three-day weekend works if you leave Thursday night; four or five days is more relaxed. All the options are in how to reach Jibhi from Delhi, and a day-by-day plan is in our Jibhi itinerary.

Which cottage to book for a long weekend
- Couples: the romantic glass house in Jibhi, for up to 2 — the bed sits right beside the glass and the cottage has a glass roof, with a private hot tub.
- Families and friends: the mud house cottages in Chhet, up to 3 guests each or 6 with both, with car-to-door access and free parking.
- Groups of about 10: take the whole property — all three cottages — with our group stay. Long weekends tend to fill early, so we suggest asking as soon as your dates are fixed.
Every cottage has a room heater, hot water 24×7 and power backup. Our in-house local chefs cook home-style, farm-sourced food on a reasonably priced menu, and pets are welcome. Room decoration, a cake and a candlelight dinner are available on request with 1 day's advance notice.

Couples usually pick the glass house in Jibhi: the bed sits right beside the glass and the cottage has a glass roof, with a private hot tub and the valley beside you, for up to 2 guests. Families and friends take the mud house cottages in Chhet, up to 3 guests each or 6 with both, side by side with a shared patio. Room decoration, a cake and a candlelight dinner are available on request with 1 day's advance notice. A bonfire can be arranged on request at an extra charge.
What are the long weekends in 2027 in India?
From the DoPT list for central government offices in Delhi: New Year (1–3 Jan, restricted), Republic Day (23–26 Jan with one leave day), Holi and Good Friday (20–28 Mar with three leave days), Ram Navami and Mahavir Jayanti (15–19 Apr with one leave day), Id-ul-Zuha and Buddha Purnima (15–23 May with three leave days), Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan (14–17 Aug), Diwali (29–31 Oct) and Christmas Eve to Christmas (24–26 Dec, restricted). Your own office list may differ.
Is there a long weekend in January 2027?
Yes. Republic Day is Tuesday 26 January 2027, so taking Monday 25 off gives Saturday 23 to Tuesday 26. New Year's Day (Friday 1 January) is a restricted holiday, which can give a Friday–Sunday break.
Which 2027 long weekend is best for a Jibhi trip?
For clear weather, the October weekends. For green, mild days, the April and May breaks. For a chance of snow, January or February, though snow is never guaranteed. We would avoid planning around August because of monsoon road risk.
Are these holiday dates final?
They come from the official DoPT memo for central government offices in Delhi and New Delhi. Id dates can move by a day depending on the moon, and state governments, schools and private companies may follow different lists.
Can a group of 10 book the whole property on a long weekend?
Yes. All three cottages together sleep about 10. Long weekends tend to fill early, so message us with your dates as soon as you can.
