Jibhi by train: nearest stations and the road leg

Which stations work, how far each is by road, and the plans we would pick from Delhi.

Short answer: there is no train to Jibhi. The nearest station by road is Joginder Nagar, about 120 km away, but it is on a narrow-gauge line with very few trains. From Delhi, the practical plans are an overnight train to Kiratpur Sahib (about 150 km from Jibhi by road, arriving around dawn) or a morning train to Chandigarh (about 235–280 km, a 7–9 hour drive). Either way you finish by road via Aut and Banjar, ideally in daylight.

Searching "Jibhi train se kaise jaye?" usually means you would rather sleep on a berth than in a bus seat. The honest answer: you can do most of the journey by train, but never all of it. Here are the stations that actually work, how far each one is from Jibhi by road, and the plans we would suggest, from people who host in Chhet, near Jibhi.

Is there a railway station in Jibhi?

No. There is no railway line to Jibhi, Banjar or anywhere in the Tirthan side of Kullu district, so every train trip ends with a road journey. For most travellers that road leg joins the Mandi–Kullu highway and turns off at Aut, then climbs through Banjar to Jibhi, roughly 28–35 km from Aut.

Which station is "nearest" depends on what you mean. By road, the closest station is Joginder Nagar, on a narrow-gauge line with very few trains. The closest broad-gauge station on the usual route is Kiratpur Sahib, and the station with the most trains from Delhi is Chandigarh.

Road distances are approximate: our route check on OpenStreetMap data from each station to Jibhi village, rounded, and the figures already on our Chandigarh and Shimla route guides. Hill roads are slow, so think in hours, not kilometres.

Plan 1: overnight train to Kiratpur Sahib

For a trip from Delhi, this is the plan we would pick if you want to travel by train. The Himachal Express (14053) leaves Delhi at night and reaches Kiratpur Sahib, in Punjab's Rupnagar district, a little after 5 AM, according to the erail.in listing we checked on 18 October 2026. From there the road runs Kiratpur → Bilaspur → Mandi → Aut → Banjar → Jibhi, about 150 km, and you drive the hill section in daylight.

  • Pre-book a cab for the dawn arrival and share your train number with the driver, so a late train does not leave you waiting at a small station.
  • Check the running status on the morning of travel; a train that is late in the night shifts your whole day.
  • Avoid evening arrivals. The Jan Shatabdi (12057) also stops at Kiratpur Sahib, but in the evening, which would put you on hill roads after dark. If you take it, stay the night nearby and drive in the morning.

Plan 2: day train to Chandigarh, then road

Chandigarh has by far the most trains from Delhi: erail.in lists around twenty between New Delhi and Chandigarh, not all of them daily. The fastest in the morning is the Vande Bharat to Amb Andaura (22447), which leaves New Delhi at 05:50 and reaches Chandigarh at about 08:40, six days a week (PIB (Ministry of Railways), 13 October 2022). The Kalka Shatabdi (12011) is another morning option.

The catch is the road leg. Chandigarh to Jibhi is roughly 235–280 km, about 7–9 hours by car with stops (our Chandigarh to Jibhi guide has the route). Even from an early train, that puts you on the Aut–Banjar–Jibhi stretch late in the day, and between October and February it gets dark early. Start the drive as soon as you arrive, or break the journey for a night and do the hills the next morning.

Prefer a bus for this part? Take a Manali or Kullu bus from ISBT Sector 43 and get down at Aut, as in our Chandigarh guide. The bus stand is a separate stop from the railway station, so allow time to get across.

What about Una and Amb Andaura?

The Vande Bharat ends at Amb Andaura, in Himachal's Una district, so it looks closer on a map. By road it is not: our route check puts Una about 200 km and Amb Andaura about 235 km from Jibhi, more than from Kiratpur Sahib. They make sense only if your trip also covers that side of Himachal.

Joginder Nagar, the nearest station by road

Joginder Nagar, in Mandi district, is the end of the narrow-gauge Kangra Valley line from Pathankot, and at about 120 km by road via Mandi and Aut it is the closest railhead to Jibhi. But it is not a practical way in from Delhi. After a long suspension, the railways restored four pairs of trains on the line from 11 October 2026, and only one of those pairs runs between Baijnath Paprola and Joginder Nagar (The Tribune, 12 October 2026). It is a lovely slow ride if you are already in the Kangra valley; check the timings on NTES or by calling 139 before you plan around it.

The toy train to Shimla, then Jalori Pass

If the journey is the point, take a train to Kalka and the Kalka–Shimla toy train, a 96 km mountain railway on the UNESCO World Heritage listing. From Shimla, the road to Jibhi crosses Jalori Pass: about 150–160 km and 5–6 hours by car (see Shimla to Jibhi via Jalori Pass). It is a two-day plan with a night in Shimla, and only for the open season: Jalori usually closes after the first heavy snow, so check whether Jalori Pass is open before you commit.

The last leg: Aut to Jibhi

Whichever station you choose (except the Shimla route), you will reach Aut on the Mandi–Kullu highway. Do not go into the long tunnel towards Kullu; take the road towards Banjar. From Aut, local buses run to Banjar and on to Jibhi, or a taxi takes about 1–1.5 hours. Staying with us? Send your train and expected arrival time on WhatsApp and we help arrange a taxi from Aut; fares vary by dates, so we confirm them with you before you travel. Details in Aut to Jibhi.

Train, bus or flight: which is easier?

  • Overnight bus: the simplest from Delhi, because Manali and Kullu buses drop you at Aut itself. See Delhi to Jibhi by overnight bus.
  • Train + cab: best if you want a proper berth or are travelling with parents or small children who find long bus rides hard. The overnight Kiratpur Sahib plan gives you a daylight drive.
  • Flight: Bhuntar (Kullu–Manali) airport is about 56–65 km from Jibhi, but flights are few and weather-dependent. See Bhuntar airport to Jibhi.
  • Your own car: the most flexible; see Delhi to Jibhi by car.

Booking tips for a train trip to Jibhi

  • Book on IRCTC and check the running days: not every train runs daily.
  • Check the live running status on NTES or call 139 on the day of travel.
  • Keep a buffer. A late train plus a slow hill road can add hours. Plan to arrive in daylight, and keep the last evening of the trip free for the road back.
  • Travelling with a dog? Indian Railways has its own rules for pets, so check them on IRCTC before you book; driving is often simpler. Pets are welcome at our cottages: see pet friendly stay in Jibhi.
