Chandigarh to Jibhi: route, distance, bus and cab
The all-year route via Mandi and Aut, the scenic Jalori option, and the last mile.
Chandigarh is the closest big city to Jibhi, and the drive is a comfortable day. Here is the route we recommend to our own guests.
Short answer: Chandigarh to Jibhi is roughly 235–280 km by road. The usual, year-round route is Chandigarh – Kiratpur – Bilaspur – Mandi – Aut – Banjar – Jibhi, about 7–9 hours by car with stops. By bus, take a Chandigarh–Manali or Chandigarh–Kullu bus to Aut, then a local bus or taxi through Banjar to Jibhi; we help our guests arrange a taxi from Aut (fares vary). There is no train to Jibhi. In the open season you can also drive the longer, scenic way over Jalori Pass via Shimla.
Route 1: via Mandi and Aut (recommended, all year)
- Chandigarh → Kiratpur → Bilaspur: highway, fast.
- Bilaspur → Sundernagar → Mandi: highway with hill sections; Mandi is the usual lunch or tea stop.
- Mandi → Pandoh → Aut: along the Beas. At Aut, do not enter the long tunnel towards Kullu; take the road towards Banjar.
- Aut → Banjar → Jibhi: roughly 28–35 km of narrower hill road along the Tirthan side, slower but beautiful.
- Jibhi → Chhet: a few minutes more to our cottages, where you drive right up to the door and park free.
This route does not cross a high pass, so it stays the reliable way in winter when Jalori is shut. Fill fuel at Aut or Banjar.
Route 2: via Shimla and Jalori Pass (open season only)
Chandigarh – Solan – Shimla – Narkanda – Ani – Jalori Pass (about 3,120 m) – Shoja – Jibhi. It is longer (roughly 280 km) and much slower, often 10–12 hours, on narrow mountain roads. It is spectacular in October, but Jalori usually closes after the first heavy snow and may stay shut for weeks. Never plan a winter arrival this way.
