Bhuntar airport to Jibhi: the nearest airport and the drive
Distance, taxi and bus options, and why to keep a backup plan.
Flying cuts the trip to Jibhi short, if the valley weather plays along. Here is how the airport transfer works.
Short answer: the nearest airport to Jibhi is Bhuntar (Kullu–Manali Airport). Bhuntar airport to Jibhi is roughly 56–65 km, usually about 2 hours by road: south from Bhuntar to Aut, then via Banjar to Jibhi. The easiest way is a pre-booked taxi; buses work too with a change or two. Flights to Bhuntar are small and weather-dependent, so keep a backup plan, especially in winter.
Bhuntar airport: what to know
- Bhuntar is a small airport in the Kullu valley, with a few flights, mainly from Delhi and Chandigarh; schedules change by season.
- Flights are often affected by weather in the valley; delays and cancellations happen, more so in winter and monsoon.
- Book flexible tickets and avoid tight connections on your arrival or departure day.
- The nearest bigger airport is Chandigarh, roughly 7–9 hours by road (see Chandigarh to Jibhi).
Bhuntar to Jibhi by taxi
From the airport, a taxi takes you south along the Beas to Aut, through the Aut tunnel, and on via Banjar to Jibhi. Plan about 2 hours. Taxis are usually available at the airport; pre-booking is calmer. Fares vary with the car and season, so agree before you leave. Staying with us? Bhuntar to Jibhi by bus
- From Bhuntar town, take a bus heading south towards Mandi, Aut or Banjar.
- Get down at Aut and change to a local bus or taxi to Banjar and Jibhi, or take a direct Banjar bus if one is due.
- For our guests, we help arrange a taxi from Aut (fares vary).
- The full no-car version is in Kasol to Jibhi without a car, which uses the same Bhuntar–Aut leg.
Is flying worth it for Jibhi?
If your time is short and you can afford some flexibility, yes: flying Delhi–Bhuntar and taking a 2-hour taxi saves a long night bus. If your dates are fixed around a celebration, the overnight private Volvo from Delhi to Aut is more predictable, which is why we recommend it to most guests. See Delhi to Jibhi.
Jibhi to Kullu and Manali from here
People also ask "Jibhi to Kullu distance". Kullu town is a short drive north of Bhuntar, so add a little to the airport figure. Manali is further, about 145 km from Jibhi via Kullu (see Manali to Jibhi). Many travellers combine Kullu or Manali with Jibhi, landing at Bhuntar and splitting nights.
Flying in winter
- Morning flights in winter are the most likely to be delayed by fog or cloud in the valley; keep your first day light.
- If snow is forecast, read Jibhi snowfall for road tips; the Aut–Banjar route is usually open.
- Pack warm layers in your cabin bag; the valley is cold as soon as you step out.
