Jibhi couple trip in winter: warm nights in a glass house

When to go, the winter route, a slow two-night plan and how to stay warm in Chhet.

Short answer: a Jibhi couple trip in winter works best from December to February if you come via Aut and Banjar, travel the hill roads in daylight, and stay somewhere warm and private. Plan for cosy evenings first; snow is possible but never guaranteed.

A Jibhi couple trip in winter is a different trip from a summer one. The days are short and crisp, the nights are properly cold, the cafés are quieter and the valley feels like it belongs to the two of you. The trick is to plan for warmth and the road first, and treat snow as a bonus. This guide covers when to go, how to get here when Jalori Pass is closed, a slow two-night plan, and how to keep the evenings warm in a glass house in Chhet, a few minutes past Jibhi.

When to go December, January or February

  • December: cold evenings and mostly sunny days. Light snow becomes more likely after mid-month on the higher ridges. Christmas and New Year are the busiest winter dates, so decide early. See Jibhi in December.
  • January: the coldest, snowiest stretch, and the quietest weeks after New Year. Heavy spells can close Jalori Pass for weeks. See Jibhi in January.
  • February: late snow is still common and days start to warm by month-end; Valentine's week sits in the middle. See Jibhi in February.

Nobody can promise snow on your dates, and we won't. If snow matters to you, read Jibhi snowfall and keep your plan flexible. If you want a starry sky, go near a new moon (9 December 2026, 8 January 2027 or 6 February 2027) and avoid the full moon on 24 December; the dates and caveats are in our guide to stargazing in Jibhi.

Getting here when Jalori is closed

In deep winter Jalori Pass often closes after heavy snow, so don't plan your route over it. Come via Aut and Banjar on NH-305, the normal year-round way to Jibhi and Chhet. Most couples either take an overnight bus from Delhi to Aut or drive; we can help arrange a taxi from Aut (fares vary, so we confirm them when you book). Full routes are on how to reach, and Delhi to Jibhi for couples has a plan-it-yourself version.

  • Finish the mountain stretch before dark. Frost and black ice are common on shaded bends in winter.
  • You can drive right up to our cottages and park free, so there is no cold walk with bags at the end.
  • WhatsApp us the evening before; we share current road status and the location pin.

A slow two-night plan built around warm evenings

  • Day 1, arrive: reach in daylight, settle in, switch on the room heater and get into the private hot tub as the light fades. Dinner in, from our in-house local chefs' menu.
  • Day 2, sunny hours out: winter afternoons are the warmest part of the day, so use them. Take an unhurried breakfast, then a short walk to the Jibhi waterfall or through the old villages around Jibhi (see Bahu and Ghiyagi). Be back before the cold sets in. A bonfire can be arranged on request at an extra charge.
  • Day 3, leave early: breakfast with the view, then set off in good time so the hill roads are behind you before dark.

Keeping warm what the Glass House has

Our glass house in Jibhi is built for two (up to 2 guests). For a winter stay, these are the things that matter:

  • A room heater in the cottage.
  • Hot water 24x7.
  • Power backup if the valley supply drops in bad weather.
  • A private hot tub with the valley in view, for after a cold afternoon out.
  • A glass roof over the bed, so on a clear night you can look up at the sky from under the covers.
  • Wi-Fi and a work desk, if one of you has to log in.

Pack for real cold a short list for two

  • Thermals, a heavy jacket, a warm cap, gloves and warm socks for each of you.
  • Shoes with good grip for frosty paths.
  • A small torch for walking after dark, and any medicines you need.
  • Swimwear for the hot tub.

Bringing your dog in winter

Pets are welcome in every cottage, so your dog can come along. Bring a warm coat or blanket for cold nights and keep walks to daylight hours, when paths are less likely to be frosty. Share your dog's details on WhatsApp first; more on our pet friendly stay in Jibhi page.

Honest caveats before you book

  • Snow is possible, more often in January and February, and never guaranteed.
  • Clear nights come between weather systems; cloud can roll in for a day or two.
  • Jalori Pass may be shut for long spells, so plan sightseeing on the Jibhi side.
  • Evenings are short; plan your outdoor time for the late morning and afternoon.
