Jibhi in March: snowmelt, showers and a quiet valley

Weather, last snow, Jalori reopening and the first trout days, from locals in Chhet.

March is when the valley turns from winter to spring, slowly and with a few showers. Here is what that means for a trip.

Short answer: March in Jibhi is the thaw: average highs around 17°C and lows around 4°C, with about 101 mm of rain over roughly 13 days, so it is one of the more showery months. The last snow of the season is possible early in the month, especially up high. Jalori Pass reopens gradually and year by year, so treat any "open" report as provisional. Trout season on the Tirthan opens on 1 March. It is quiet, green-going and good value in calm, not crowds.

Snowfall in Jibhi in March

Snow in the village in March is uncommon but possible in the first half, usually a light fall that melts within a day or two. Jalori and the higher ridges hold snow much longer. If you want snow, February is a better bet; see Jibhi in February and Jibhi snowfall.

Is Jalori Pass open in March?

Sometimes. Reopening depends on how much snow fell and how fast it melts, and early openings can be for 4x4 vehicles only. Do not plan a Shimla-to-Jibhi drive over Jalori in March without confirming the day before. The Aut–Banjar route stays the reliable way in. Details: is Jalori Pass open?
