Jibhi in September, October end and the off season

Rain by ten-day spells, when the monsoon really leaves, and how to pick quieter dates.

Short answer: early September in Jibhi is still monsoon, the second half is usually easing, and by October end the valley is dry and clear with cold nights. Over 2016–2025 the first ten days of September averaged about 84 mm of rain; the last ten days of October, about 5 mm. IMD's normal date for the monsoon to leave Himachal is 25 September, but it left later in each of the last ten years. There is no official off season: for quieter weeks, come midweek and avoid long weekends. In September, keep a buffer day and check the road before you leave.

Searching for Jibhi in September, the off season or October end usually means one thing: you want the valley without the long-weekend rush, and you want to know whether the weather will play along. Here is what the data says, when the monsoon really leaves Himachal, and how to pick quieter dates, from people who host in Chhet, near Jibhi.

Is there an off season in Jibhi?

Not officially. Travellers use "off season" loosely for the months with fewer visitors, but what changes how busy Jibhi feels is mostly the calendar: long weekends and holidays are busier, especially near the waterfall and the market, and ordinary weekdays are calmer. The weather year looks like this (averages from our best time to visit guide):

  • July and August: the monsoon, the wettest months (more than 300 mm of rain each). The real risk is the road; read Jibhi in monsoon first.
  • September: the transition month, about 178 mm of rain on roughly 19 rainy days, easing late in the month. This page.
  • October and November: dry, clear and our own pick. See Jibhi in October and Jibhi in November.
  • December to February: cold, with snow in some years but never guaranteed. See Jibhi in winter and Jibhi snowfall.
  • March to June: the thaw, then warm days. See Jibhi in March and Jibhi in summer.

Jibhi weather in September, ten days at a time

DatesRain · rainy daysWhat it's like
1–10 September~84 mm · ~8 daysStill monsoon: rain on most days
11–20 September~39 mm · ~6 daysEasing, still showery
21–30 September~54 mm · ~5 daysFewer wet days, some heavy bursts
21–31 October~5 mm · ~2 daysDry, clear, cold nights

Approximate: daily ERA5 reanalysis data for Jibhi village, 2016–2025, via Open-Meteo (ERA5), averaged and rounded. Rainy day = 1 mm or more. Averages, not a forecast: any single year can be very different.

September averages about 23°C by day and 14°C at night. The first ten days are the wettest and the mildest at night, around 15–16°C. By the last ten days of September there are fewer rainy days, but the rain that falls can come in heavier bursts, and nights cool to about 13°C. Compare that with October end: almost no rain on average, days around 19°C and nights around 7°C, colder on clear nights.

When the monsoon actually leaves

The IMD Meteorological Centre Shimla gives 25 September as the normal date for the monsoon to withdraw from Himachal Pradesh. In practice it has left later in each of the last ten years: between 26 September (2025) and 11 October (2019), and in seven of those ten years only in October. In 2026 it withdrew from the whole state on 3 October, according to IMD Shimla's withdrawal note of that day (see also its Monsoon Report 2026).

For planning, treat early and mid-September as a monsoon trip and the last week as the changeover. If your dates are flexible, the first half of October is a safer bet than the second half of September.

Is Jibhi safe in September?

The village is not the issue; the road is. Jibhi is reached on NH-305 through Aut and Banjar, and monsoon damage can last into September. In 2025, residents of Banjar told reporters the highway was still partly blocked 45 days after it was damaged, with long power and mobile network outages in the area (The Tribune, 13 September 2025). Nobody can promise the road, so plan for it:

  • Check before you leave: district warnings from IMD Meteorological Centre Shimla, notices from District Kullu, and the HP State Disaster Management Authority helplines 1077 (district emergency operation centre), 1070 (state) and 112. Then ask your stay or driver the evening before.
  • Keep a buffer day at the end of the trip, and drive the hill stretch in daylight.
  • Do not stop under cut slopes after heavy rain, and never drive or walk through flowing water on the road.
  • Ask about cancellation terms before you pay anyone for September dates.
  • Respect the water: the waterfall path and riverside rocks stay slippery after rain; do not wade in fast water.

What is good in September and October

  • Treks and camping: the Great Himalayan National Park season calendar lists September to November as a core-zone trekking window and a camping season. Check conditions and permits first; our GHNP guide has the details.
  • Trout fishing: the park lists trout fishing in designated eco-zones from April to October. A licence is needed; see Tirthan Valley trout fishing.
  • Adventure in the ecozone: rock climbing, river crossing and abseiling are listed for September to November. Go only with a trained local operator.
  • Jalori Pass and Serolsar Lake: when the road is open, a drive up the pass and the walk to Serolsar Lake; check the Jalori Pass guide first.
  • Closer to the cottage: the old Chehni Kothi tower, village walks and slow afternoons. More ideas in 5 things to do in Jibhi.

Jibhi at October end in 2026

If you are reading this in October 2026, the last ten days of the month are usually the driest of the year so far: about 5 mm of rain on average and only a couple of rainy days, with days around 19°C and cold nights around 7°C. Two dates to know:

  • Kullu Dussehra, 21–27 October 2026, at Dhalpur Maidan in Kullu. It makes a day trip from Jibhi: leave early and go on a weekday. See our Kullu Dussehra 2026 guide.
  • Diwali, Sunday 8 November 2026: the long weekend runs around 6–10 November. See Diwali in Jibhi.

Pack warm layers for the evenings (our October–November packing list), and read Jibhi in October 2026 for the whole month.

How to pick quieter dates

  • Come midweek. Weekdays are calmer than weekends, and a Sunday-to-Thursday trip avoids the Friday rush out of Delhi.
  • Skip the long weekends if quiet is the point, or plan around them. Our 2027 long weekends list shows which ones to avoid.
  • Go just after a long weekend, once the return traffic has passed. Our November guide marks the quiet stretch after Diwali 2026.
  • In September, choose the second half and keep a buffer day; in October and November, any weekday works.
